Usage Guide

The following is a set of steps to guide you through using a mobile app with the Literal SDK enabled. Boards created from the SDK will be available on your dashboard.

Production vs Debug Builds

Debuggable test builds are not the same as production builds downloaded from Google Play or App Store. The SDK should not be enabled in production builds.

Start Recording

To start recording, three finger tap anywhere on the screen. iOS may show a system-level dialog asking for permission to record the screen. The dialog will be shown again if more than eight minutes have passed since user permission was last granted. This is a system-level restriction.

Record confirm

Tap "Record Screen". If you tap "Don't Allow" accidentally, simply three finger tap again. You don't need to restart the app.

Next, a toast with a countdown will appear. When the toast dismisses, recording has started.

Toast countdown

Careful

Currently, backgrounding the app during recording will cause problems with the screen recording.

Should this occur, please force close your app as the SDK may be in a disabled state.

Stop Recording

To stop recording, three finger tap anywhere on the screen. A confirmation toast with upload progress will appear.

Toast upload

Careful

Currently, avoid closing the app until the confirmation toast has dismissed or the upload may fail.

Should this occur, please force close your app as the SDK may be in a disabled state.

See Results

Navigate to your dashboard to find a new board created upon the first app launch. Additional recordings created for the same build will appear on the same board. If app information changes, a new board will be created. A unique board is defined by:

  • App name
  • App version
  • Operating system (Android/iOS/Web)

Slack Integration

Notifications can be enabled by heading over to Settings. Just enable the Slack app and select the desired channel for your team.
